Artists that create interesting portraits: Francesco Vezzola

The following project simply shows women bathing in coloured water, hence the name of the project being 'Colourtubs'. I think this title is really fitting to this project as the images are really minimalist. This project looks into 'the spontaneity of everyday life' (as Angelina Puschkarski states on Another Magazine's website), as he was shooting with a model in a bathtub and, for no reason, added pink colouring to it - this experiment would then create this project.

(Katharina - Spinach)

(Sarah - Beetroots)

(Katja - Turmeric)

This project really captivated me because of the beautiful simplicity of each image within it. I really love how they are taken on film - I think this gives them an interesting finish which might have been lost in digital photography. The use of close ups on the subjects within the images really exposes them - they would be exposed in a different way if they were full length body shots. I think this adds a raw quality to the images and it makes them seem more 'real', as if they had perhaps been caught off guard. There is one photo that I found that is very different to the other images in the series:

(Lexi - Tomato)

This is the most explicit image within the series, as the woman's breasts can be seen. This could be because this model was one of the more confident out of those he photographed and didn't mind getting photographed in this way. I think this gives the project a completely different feel to it because of this image - to me it turns into more of a comment on the sexualisation on women in the art industry - more specifically media and film. This is because the artist has specifically chosen to only photograph one woman in this way and therefore it has been done for a reason.
