Second shoot back at uni (with artist research).

Contact sheet from this shoot of all images taken:

For this shoot, I was going for something completely different in terms of framing, composition and even the subject matter I was using; even though I am still working primarily with mirrors. I wanted to experiment with something different to see what works and what doesn't - I took some shots that didn't include a portrait at all to test it out. I used people's hands to be reflected into the mirror to add interest as I really liked how they looked as though they were floating and it created a really minimalistic image. These images were inspired by some images I found on a blog called 'thisispaper', which look as though they could work as advertising images for jewelry:

For the portrait images I took, I was inspired by the work of Eylül Aslan in which she uses a mirror to block of part of the subject's face, reflecting the sky into the mirror:

Taken from the project 'Milkmeid', I really liked this image because of how it is very simple and this is an aesthetic I am trying to use in my work. I also thought this was another way I could experiment with using the mirror as she has covered part of the model's face with the mirror and reflected something else in it. Although Aslan took her image outside, I decided that I would stay in the studio because this is where I could easily control the lighting and achieve the look I was going for.
I wanted to test this concept out by using 2 people with one person holding the mirror reflecting the other person in front of them. I wanted to do this because I felt like this was a good thing to do to help me figure out if using multiple people in one image works or not.

Here are some images from this shoot which show what I was trying to achieve from this project:

This shoot achieved what I intended: I took minimalistic images of mirrors reflecting hands and used a mirror in front of one person reflecting the other - I used my research to help me when taking my images. Although I think these images look aesthetically pleasing, I am not going to be continuing this style in my project - I think the portraits look too confusing and don't reflect the idea of my project nor do the reflections of the hands. I am going to continue using one person in my work from this stage as I think this is more successful.
