Meeting with Laura Bird.

This morning I had a meeting with Laura, as I thought that her CV workshop last week was really helpful and so I wanted to go and speak to her about my options after university. I am near the end of my degree and so need to know what I am going to do next.

She mentioned that there was a Huddersfield graduate programme that they do, which is an 8-12 week placement and is paid. She told me to simply search for internships and see what's available, and to start applying for things that interest me.

I said I was looking at doing an internship and so this is what we looked at in the session - we didn't specifically look for photography ones as this was too narrow. We looked at fashion internships too and, because the companies are quite small, I would actually be doing something helpful and not simply being asked to do the jobs that no one else wants to do.
Research websites of placements - do your research and actually show an interest in the company.

One place she said to look at was the Manchester Fashion Network - thefashionnetwork.co.uk.
She suggested subscribing to the website to see what they were offering - news stories/events.
Social media manager? Fashion intern?
Go to an event? Things to listen to, careers fairs.

Use LinkedIn - search, connect with people and ask about their job.
E-mail places - ask for advice rather than ask for a job.
Speak to Richard and Liam - see what other students have done.

Laura mentioned she has CV meetings on Monday's from 12 till 1 which are 10 minutes long. She also said that if I email them with queries, application checks and stuff like that they respond within 5 working days.
Set weekly goal - write CV? Do portfolio?
