Sophie Abbott - Retouching.

Today we were able to go to a retouching lesson with Sophie Abbott who is a retoucher for Boohoo, and I had signed up to it as soon as I saw the opportunity as I knew it would be beneficial to me as fashion is the industry which really interests me. The following are before and after gifs to show what I had done to each image.


This image hasn't been perfected as the lesson was quite quick so I had to slightly rush - the aim was to make the model's arms less hairy which I have succeeded in, but the aftermath is not what I intended as the arm doesn't look realistic.

I really enjoyed this session with Sophie, as it has highlighted key areas that she looks at when editing images for such a large company. I have also learned different ways to edit things that I previously edited in another way - this has been really helpful because it means that, if I am trying to edit a picture but the way I am using is not working, I can look at it another way and try to edit it using a different method.

Final pin up session (with feedback).

Today we had our last pin up session to get feedback from the people in our class - this has been really helpful in the past to allow me to see how I could improve my work for the exhibition. I decided on placing quite a few images on the wall because I think my project is a lot more effective when multiple images are placed together. Here is what I placed on the wall: It wasn't the best place to put work up on the walls as there was a lot of marks from where people had drawn on the board, so was a slight distraction I thought. I decided to place 3 different paper types on the wall to see if people thought they worked well together: acetate, semi gloss and metallic. I also placed some images on top of others to reflect the meaning of the project and to give it more depth. Making a zine.

I spoke to Richard today about whether I should buy a portfolio box for the exhibition to show the fashion work I have been creating alongside my FMP, and he instead suggested making a zine to present this work instead. I really like this idea because it is an easy way for someone to look at my work in one go as they can simply flick through the book. This is how I intend to print it: For this, I have used Photoshop to select colours from the images themselves and use this colour to create a block page, which I think will work well as it will make the final piece look brighter and more engaging. I have chosen an icy blue colour for the front and back cover because I wanted to have a really stand out book that people would want to look at - I was choosing between this colour and a bright pink; I decided against pink because I know Conor's book has a pink cover and I don't want there to be competition between the 2. Shopping around for an A1 frame.

I have already bought a silver frame for my A2 print, to relate to the mirrors I have used within my project, and just need to find one for my A1 print. I have emailed a few places to see the types of prices they were quoting and then I went from there. I initially asked about black frame as this is what I thought I wanted: I received quite a few emails very quickly after asking about frames - they all seemed quite expensive (seeing as I have had to pay a lot for my prints and therefore don't have a lot of money to spend on framing them) and so I was wondering what to do. I then realised that black would look way too harsh for my prints because it would make them look darker and could create a totally different meaning to my project.
