Eighth shoot back at university.
Going back to my original idea, I got back in the studio and used the same mirror that I had used previously in the portraits that I thought were successful as I wanted to try and develop this idea as I had become more comfortable with what I was shooting. I had previously used people I knew and were friends with in my images because I wanted to become confident with the images I was creating, but then decided I needed to change this up a bit to create some images that were more interesting to me.
I made a post on a Facebook page asking if anyone would be interested in modelling for me and showed some pictures that I had taken previously to give an example of what I would be doing. I wanted to use people that I didn't know because this allowed for there to be another obstruction within my project; I would have to overcome the awkwardness of taking portraits of someone I do not know.
My images:
When I first met Sarah, I found it slightly uncomfortable to take pictures of her as I had never met her before but after a few clicks I felt like it happened really naturally and I was able to direct her to pose in whichever ways I wanted to. As I had previously taken some images of myself in which my head filled some of the framing, I experimented with this further because of how well I think it works. I did this by shooting through the model's hair, which creates a slight blur of the model within the mirror because of how fine the hair was and how close to the lens she was. I think this works super well because it adds another layer of obstruction to the image which is perfect for my project.
Although the image in the first place wasn't bad, I wanted to edit the image so that the mirror was straight. This caused the hand to look really uncomfortable but I really liked this aspect to the image as it adds an awkward quality. I then cropped the image so that the mirror was central as I think this looks more considered and is more aesthetically pleasing.
I created this image by selecting the area of the mirror and enlarging it, in the same way I edited the images in my fourth shoot:
I really liked this image because of how aesthetically pleasing it is to me as it is very minimal yet striking - I think this is due to the use of the purple background and the fact that the face has been zoomed in on. This image would work more for a beauty campaign or in some form of advertising, but I don't think it works for my project because of the fact it looks like advertising imagery.
