Ninth shoot back at university.

This was the second shoot that I have done taking portraits of people that I do not know, but this time I tried something different again in terms of the mirror I have used. I decided that I wanted to test out a different shape of mirror to really challenge myself because I felt like I was beginning to be really repetitive within the images that I was creating.

My images:

I had yet to use an orange backdrop in my images, so I wanted to test it out because I thought that it was a really nice colour; it ended up working really well with the blue in the mirror and contrasted beautifully. I decided to use a piece of a broken mirror due to how thin it is and how different it made the portraits look - I found it quite a challenge with this piece of mirror to ensure that only the orange background was in the image with the blue backdrop in the mirror and the model. This is because the mirror is long and therefore was close to the edges of the orange backdrop. I was dubious about using this mirror because of how it could automatically create its own emotions, it is quite sharp and could represent danger but also the fact it is a broken piece could add a sad vibe to the portrait. I think the way I have shot this does not represent danger or sadness because I have used bright colours to give it a poppy aesthetic and also the way the model is posed is not threatening nor does she look upset.

For some images, it made sense to crop them for one reason or another; there was no inspiration behind this it just seemed like it made the image look better. In the top images, I decided to crop it because I didn't like how much space there was around the model although, as I type this, this actually may be a positive aspect of this photo because she looks kind of small and lost within the space - she's obstructed by the colour, maybe even overshadowed by it. Similarly in the second set of photos, I decided to crop the image because of how much space there was around the mirror initially. For this, I decided to completely change the orientation of the image to see what I could create and I am really happy with the outcome. The image I have created looks as thought I have shot through an orange material which adds to the confusion that I am trying to create with my project as it offers the question of how I have created the image - is it all done in camera or is it post-production?
