Cult Artes zine feature.





I submitted some images to the Cult Artes website because it was free and I felt like I had nothing to lose - either they would use the work or they wouldn't. I received an email not long after my submission to say that they liked my images and that I was going to be featured in their March issue. This made me so super excited because nothing like this has ever happened to me before - I feel like my work is being recognised and all my hard work is finally paying off.

This magazine was also supposed to be printed but, unfortunately, I received an email a few days ago to say that they were having trouble with getting it printed because they are a small business and have to do everything themselves. This was really upsetting but I am still extremely happy that they included my work in their publication.

Conventions of portraiture.

When taking a portrait of someone, there are always things to consider to ensure that a successful image is achieved. This is broken down into 4 sub sections as outlined by David Bate: Face, pose, location and clothing. I am going to briefly explain what each of these points mean and give examples of photographers to demonstrate the points further. FACE The first convention I am going to look into is face, and why this is essential when taking a portrait of any kind. It is obvious that when taking a portrait of someone, their face usually needs to be seen because this lets the audience know who the photograph is of. Ideas about next Interim.

For my next interim, I want to be more creative with the way in which I display my images, because I feel like having my images in an organised manner would not work for my project as it would look too neat. I decided to look more into the way in which Wolfgang Tillman's displays his work and then Richard suggested looking at Alexandra Lethbridge. Wolfgang Tillmans: In this display, I really love how all of the colours are very different to each other but they seem to work with one another as a full display. This way would also work really well for my project because of how the images all look scattered and disoriented - as my project is about the unknown, this would add another depth to my images. Fourth shoot back at uni (with artist research).

I was really interested in the following image by Paola Rojas and therefore wanted to experiment with filling in the mirror with the model's face. I didn't want to change the mirror I was using as I wanted to be consistent with my work, so I created my images in post production. I also found the work of Thomas Flurschuetz really interesting as he uses different parts of his body to create really abstract portraits which look really unusual: What I plan on doing for my project is focusing on specific aspects of a person's face in the mirror, but I am going to do this in post production as I feel like this will work better than using the other side of the mirror I am using because it will be too zoomed in and I would rather have the ability to choose how zoomed the subject is.
